Yoga
Yoga fundamentally represents the harmony of body, mind, and spirit. "This is the essence of yoga and its practice in Eastern traditions," explains Miriam Amselem, a yogi with nearly three decades of experience. "It serves as a journey of self-exploration and connection with your body, emphasizing balance, effective stretching, mindful breathing, meditation, and centering the mind and spirit — that’s the true essence of yoga." Yet, each style of yoga offers its own unique perspective and interpretation. This diversity is evident in the emergence of trends like goat yoga, where playful goats frolic around participants, alongside more traditional practices such as Iyengar and Ashtanga. Most importantly, yoga stands apart from the "no pain, no gain" mentality prevalent in many fitness circles. It is not about pushing limits or disregarding your body’s signals. The core principle is ahimsa, or non-harming, which begins with selecting the yoga style that resonates with you.

I want to be completely transparent with you: I initially found yoga to be quite difficult. In contrast, Pilates felt much more suitable for me. However, I still longed for the connection and the invigorating energy that yoga offers. In my very first class, the instructor took the time to explain the different styles of yoga and how each could align with my unique body type and personal goals. I realized that Hatha Yoga was the ideal starting point for me. Now, I genuinely enjoy my daily practice and experience the connection and energy boost I had been searching for!
I highly recommend trying a complimentary class at your local yoga studio, where they can assist you in finding the right classes for your needs. I have found a site that gives a breakdown of various yoga styles. Please feel free to click here.

I had my initial consultation and classes at Body and Brain Yoga and Tai Chi in Tacoma. Currently, I'm on the lookout for a similar option here in Olympia. For now, I've decided to stick with online classes and videos. To utilize the video I'm using at the moment, please click here.
